The tragedy of suicide.
In my book I have, in a brief, looked at suicide and the place a person gets into before they decide to take their own life. Suicide is such a tragic waste of life and after having a look at why people take this desperate action, my heart goes out to those who are considering suicide as an option.
The most concerning thing to me is when people get so desperate, at a time they should be talking to someone, they prefer to shut down. I believe a lot of this is due to the fear that for the rest of their lives they will be on suicide watch and will have the constant feeling of “big brother” looking over their shoulder.
We all have different levels of absorption to the battles we face in life and the effect setbacks, disappointments and failure have on us. The five biggest instigators I have seen with people who take their own lives is business failure (includes facing mortgagee sales, bankruptcy, losing a farm or property), some form of humiliation, relationship breakups, clinical depression and mental torment of some kind with one of the main ones being low self esteem.
Our ministry is called Operation Vida. Vida means life in Spanish. Jesus is the way the truth and the life (John 10:10). If you are considering suicide chances are you will shut down from people around you as don’t want people to know what you are thinking. Can I ask you to do three things; (1) Talk to Jesus, (2) think of a person that you could trust and could call for help, (3) phone the suicide helpline, (the number in New Zealand is 0800 543 354), the people at the other end of the line do not know you, so you can share what you are going through without anyone knowing.
